My Journey Into Publishing

As a kid in school, I didn’t like reading. I didn’t like being told by a teacher what to read, and I especially didn’t like being told how quickly to read. For years, I thought I hated reading. Turns out, I did not like being told what to do.

As I got older, I discovered that reading actually was my escape. As someone who enjoys acting and storytelling, I would always imagine myself in the stories that I was reading. I live for reading as much as I do performing.

I entered the workforce during a global pandemic… the industry that I loved was shut down. I quickly had to recalibrate and figure out something I could do in the meantime while I waited for Broadway to reopen.

I started working as a marketing assistant for an independent author. I was helping her with social media and website. As I progressed with her, I went from dealing with only her digital marketing to becoming her publishing assistant.

At the start of 2022, I decided I wanted to do the freelance thing, find more clients and help independent authors tell their stories. As a publishing assistant, I am line editing, proofreading, formatting, managing accounts and websites, coordinating book readings and events and even dabbling in some basic book designing.

Now, I get to read for a living, work with incredible people and help tell all kinds of stories. If you are looking for any type of assistance through the publishing process, whether it’s editing and proofreading or making your word document into a book or setting up an online bookshop, I am your gal. I would love to join forces and get your story out there.

With love and gratitude,

Claire
